Patients who have undergone CT Scan suffers hair loss
Patients who have undergone CT brain perfusion scan that have been overdosed are now suffering from hair loss.
The overdoses, which began to appear last summer, set off research by the Food and Drug Administration into why patients tested with this compound yet moderately synchronized technology were irradiated with extreme radiation.
In addition, the agency was ready to provide the results after ten months whether what is really the caused. However, an assessment by The New York Times has found out that the overdoses from radiation were bigger and more general rather than the formerly known.
Moreover, patients also reported some symptoms substantially more critical rather than losing their hair, and experts also said that they may encounter long-term risks of brain damage and cancer. The study also gives perception into the way several of the overdosed happened.
On the other hand, in some of the cases, technicians do not have knowledge how to correctly manage the test. Interviews with the officials of the hospital and a review of public records bring up new questions about the responsibility of the manufacturers.
It also includes how well they plan their equipment and software and teach those who will use it. Moreover, the Times found out the biggest overdoses at Huntsville Hospital. There is almost 13 times the amount of radiation usually used in the test.
Furthermore, according to a GE Healthcare, the company that supplied the scanners, officials there said that they deliberately used high levels of radiation to obtain clearer images. Experts said that it is unreasonable and potentially risky.
According Dr. Rebecca Smith-Bindman, a radiology instructor, has showed before the Congress about the necessity for more controls over using the CT scans. However, because the hospital said no mistakes were made, regulatory agencies did not investigate.
