Haiti’s Electoral Board Delays Announcement of Qualified Runners for Presidency
The electoral commission in Haiti postponed the announcement of the qualified personalities who aspire to run for presidency, due to some circumstances regarding an extensive examination of their application.
The delays with regard to the announcement of the qualified presidential candidates in the Haitian country according to the electoral body; that they need enough time to consider and study all the applications of people who wanted to run in the presidential position.
More than 30 individuals, who aspired to be the next to gain the highest position, filed their application before the August 8 deadline.
According to Haitian law the candidates in any position need to reside in the country for five consecutive years, wherein Mr. Wyclef Jean, who run for the highest position, does not live in the country for the requirement period. It was a big question needed to handle, whether Mr. Jean will qualify to run or not.
After Wyclef Jean announced his decision to run for the presidential seat in Haiti he received number of death threats that threaten his life.
Wyclef Jean told The Associated Press about the series of threats and warning he had received after his decision and filing his application to run as president. Jean said that In one instance he received a phone call that warning him to get out of Haiti.
His decision to run been criticized by people around him, includes his ex-band member Pras Michael with regard to his attempt to run the highest position in Haiti. His band mate stated that Mr. Jean was not qualified to become a leader of the new Haitian government.
At this moment, the Haitian country was struggling with great effort to recover from the devastating catastrophe that hit the country last January. The new government was the new hope to arise in their country. The presidential elections will take place on November 28.
